Linux Textmate alternative

What would be the closet alternative to Textmate for linux? Gedit with the file browser on the left is awesome, but I'm looking for something closer.

Don't know what Textmate is, but always looking for an excuse to plug GNU Emacs.

If you want a file/code browser you could use ECB (http://ecb.sourceforge.net/docs/GNU-Emacs-Installation.html).

I would recommend Vim.

Very powerful in its own right, plus there are thousands of plug-ins / scripts to extend it to behave in particular ways you might want.

For example one of Textmate's nice features is Snippets, and there are a couple of vim plugins (e.g. http://www.vim.org/scripts/script.php?script_id=2540) which implement Textmate style snippets.

A closet Textmate user, eh?

I use Geany (http://geany.org/), which is a GUI text editor. Not as powerful as Textmate I would have thought but very nice nonetheless.

Have also seen TEA editor (http://tea-editor.sourceforge.net/), which looks mildly ugly but with more features than Geany? ;)

Redcar is almost exactly like text mate, even supports textmate bundles. I cant seem to find any of the keycommands tho, anyone know them?

definitely i like RedCar. much better than Bluefish or Gedit. (in my opinion)

The gmate (https://github.com/gmate/gmate) project is a collection of various 3rd party plugins that provide various functionality of TextMate to Gedit.

Redcar appears to have died. No updates over about half a year.
