View Full Version : [ubuntu] Cursor size

October 24th, 2010, 07:34 AM

Ubuntu 10.04 32 bit installed in laptop hp compaq 6720s, gnome desktop. Personalized inverted theme with cursor whiteglass bigger size. Everything okay in apps except in kde apps I have installed as k3b, ktorrent, when I pass pointer over their windows, the size of cursor is not the bigger but the normal one.
Can I do something to fix it?. I used tips in this thread http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1206598&highlight=size+pointer to make kde apps look like gnome ones.

Thanks in advance.

I doubt this will help you any, but KDE doesn't have the option to resize 'resize-able' cursors such as whiteglass. I have the whiteglass cursor in my Kubuntu 10.10 (because I installed a gnome application), and I see no way to resize it. This leads me to believe that when you hover over the KDE applications in Gnome, it uses KDE's icon settings which aren't (and can't be) resized.

You might have some better luck installing your own cursor theme though, because 95% of the time the custom cursors are much larger than normal.

You can find complete custom cursor themes here:
(Click on the "X11 Mouse Themes" category on the left)
Some of them are VERY NICE looking, but too big for me.

I hope this helps.

Thank you very much for you answer.

I will look the links you provide in order to make my own custom cursor theme, I understand it won't be a whiteglass based one, since kde has not the option to resize it.

Really, it would seem strange to me that I could change, in systemsettings, almost anything (colors, fonts,...) in kde apps to look like gnome except size of cursor, which doesn't appear as a setting.

Oops... When I said "your own cursor theme" I meant to say "a custom theme that you downloaded". When you install some cursor themes from gnome-look.org or kde-look.org, you will see that they are a bigger size than the cursors that are included in Ubuntu. I think (hope) this way you will not have to make the cursors bigger anymore.
