I have seen in multiple threads the possibilities for distributing technology on the form of laptops across the world. I am wondering if the open source philosophy can help with that. Even having a OS like Ubuntu over proprietary windows programs and OS's can reduce the average PC by $100s. Add this to "netbooks" and you have a VERY cheap computing alternative.

Ah! Yes thats the project that I have heard about recently! I heard about it a while ago and wondered if linux could be applied to something like that too.

I think that a lot of people in the developing countries are using pirated Windows copies as well. It's what the situation is in Eastern Europe. I also read that in India and China is the same...
Well of course there're a lot of Linux users, but people don't really count the price of Windows because they ususally use a pirated copy. It's the same with the applications...
