Upgraded 10.04 to 10.10 via 64-bit alternate iso.

New Ubuntu font presents with artifacts with various letters/numbers/characters. On one boot up it may artifact all letter "o"s. The next reboot will artifact all periods.

Below is a screenshot of Ubuntu artifacts with all Capital "E"s.

Compiz is turned off and uninstalled and rebooted before screenshot was taken.

This also occurs in every single program in Ubuntu: Synaptic, Firefox, Screenshot, etc.

I changed the font size on the Application Font to font size 11 (instead of 10 like everything else) under System>Preferences>Appearance and then the Fonts tab and the artifacting goes away.

Regardless, does anyone have a reason as to why it is doing this? Is it the spacing for the font that is not allowing correct display? Does the Ubuntu font require a minimum font size?
