Hi and welcome to the forums :)

Is this a regular install to the drive or via Wubi?

Are you dual-booting with Windows or any other operating system?

If yes, are you able to boot into the operating system?

ya i installed it via wubi.., & yes i'm not able to boot into O.S after restarting since it prompted to restart after downloading the updates..., there was this BIOS like screen as soon i chose ubuntu after startup.., there it asks for like- root user, password, total 37 updates available 7 are security & finally leaves me a blinking cursor... what to do next???

If you have an Ubuntu CD, boot the computer with it and choose to try Ubuntu not install it.

Then, go to the link posted at the bottom of my post and follow the instructions there.

Post the results back here and we will try and find a solution for you.

Thanks.
