View Full Version : Where to find 3.5" floppy disks

I'm looking for some 3.5" floppy disks that have software labels on them. I don't particularly care what the software is or who makes it.

Does anyone know where I could find some or if you have some maybe we could work something out.

Edit: I would actually take 5.25" as well.

Ebay has some things, but stupid work filter and bad reception = :(

To be more specific, I'm looking not for blank ones, but disks that came with product labels on them for the software that is/was on it. It's an art thing. So if you happen to have some laying around and wouldn't mind parting with them maybe we could work something out.

They sell them at CVS drug store by my house, but they are expensive. Micro Center (http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0200681)

I was hoping for some with varying labels. Labels that would be particularly interesting are like Windows 3.1, early versions Linux, Oregon Trail, TIE Fighter, AOL (or any of those infamous junk mail disks). I only need 5-10 disks, but I would take a bulk order from somewhere to be able to sort through and find some that I like. And since I don't have a floppy drive, 3.5" or 5.25", they don't have to work; they're just for show.

I'm leaning towards 5.25" right now, but if I can't find a good collection then I would use 3.5".

EDIT: DOS would be awesome too.

Why not buy new ones and make labels for whatever old software you want? If it's for art, you don't really need those bits to be on there do you?

I'm hoping for a slightly worn, possibly yellowed with age vintage look.

Buy some plain unlabled ones in bulk, then do a google search for the images you want and print them.

I have 2 bins of various 3.5 disks behind me at work, including a full set of Macintosh System 7.5 install disks, various driver disks, and a ton of hand-written label disks.

Are you looking for specific colors or just old labeled disks?

No 5.25 disks though. I will check our lockup area and see what I can find but I would not hold my breath.

3.5" floppies are still around here at most larger computer shops and a few mom and pops, but 5.25" have been dead for years. I tried to find some, just out of curiosity, a few years ago to no avail.

What country are you in? If I know that, I can guest at the cost of getting it to you.

I may have some 5.25" and 3.5" floppies. It only took me a minute or two to find a 5.25" disk with Fontasy release 2.0 by Prosoft copyright 1985 in a shelf. It was for MS-DOS with a yellow and blue label. I also found some 3.5" disks for old dial-up home banking software for Nations Bank from the Windows 95 days (black Roman text label with a touch of red boarder at the top) and Bank of America (gray, green, with a touch of blue and red on the label). I also found some 3.5" disks with dial-up stock investing software from Worden Brothers called TeleChart copyrighted 1995-1998 (poorly printed white and black label).

I may have more of them in various places in my junk I have kept for no reason.

Of course I would want to destroy any data on them before giving them to you. :) Basically, I would want to use the shred or dd commands to clean the 3.5" disks. I am assuming that any of the 5.25" disks I find wouldn't have any private date.

I would also ask what the art is for, so I can determine if I want to expend the effort finding this stuff.

Hmm...maybe check local college campus stores? I actually ran into the same problem as you did-I needed floppies for a programming class because I couldn't find my USB to transfer them. Most of the college stores on campus had them. Good luck with your search!

I have some stored in a chest. Haven't used floppies in years.
