View Full Version : [ubuntu] Ubuntu 10.04 LTSP-Thin client network boot over Internet

Hello guys,
I am very new to the Linux world and really found it impressive with lots of helping hands :-) . I am currently doing some experimentation on my two laptops for Ubuntu 10.04 LTSP. Till now I am able to do PXE boot to my thin client laptop over LAN using cross-over cable.
I want to know is it possible to boot my thin client over Internet( be it wireless mobile broadband,DSL,dial up or anything) ? If yes, then what is the step-by-step procedure ?

Hi Guys..any idea on this ? Want to connect to DSL line at the booting time and carry on booting process over VPN..may be its sounding weird but does anyone has tried it ever ?
Let me know if I am missing something.

I have not done any work on lan booting or thin clients but here is some leads Ubuntu has in it's help site:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ThinClients, and
might help out.
This sub-forum is for UEC, I haven't checked but I believe there is a sub-forum better suited for your interest.

and, of course, the Linux LTSP website:

Of course, the ltsp-server and GUI ltsp-manager are available as packages from the Package Managers (or apt-get install from the command line).
