View Full Version : [ubuntu] 10.10 Problems - With Boot Info Results

So whenever I start my computer up after attempting to install 10.10 from a Live USB (from scratch) I go straight to grub recovery.

Basically if i can just get everything back to before where i could run win7 i can just try reinstalling Ubuntu again from there that'd be awesome!

Any help is greaattly appreciated As right now I can only work on this computer from running from the USB in Live Mode.

Here's my Boot Info RESULTS.txt :

Taking things one step at a time, I would try this first:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1581099

Obviously, this will also work from a LiveUSB and make sure to mount and reinstall GRUB to sda5 and the MBR of sda.

If this does not work, then do you have a Windows recovery CD to restore the Windows bootloader?

If not, there is a fix for that too.

Let us know.

Thanks.

It is probably confused because something messed up the order of your partitions. How did sda7 end up physically "before" sda5 (look at start and end points in fdisk output)? Maybe it would work better if you shuffled the partition numbers to the correct physical order.

sda7 should be sda5
sda5 should be sda6
sda6 should be sda7
sd8 is ok

I have this exact situation. The partitions are numbered in the order that they are created not in their physical order in the disk. That in itself doesn't create any problems. A simple grub reinstall will fix it as Rubi1200 suggested: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2#Reinstalling GRUB 2
