I performed an upgrade from 9.10 to 10.04 on an ubuntu machine. It performed normally until it got to "configuring PAM" then the machine locked up hard. The only way out was to reboot the machine.
Since that reboot, the machine starts to boot and then reboots.
Is there a way to boot from a Cd and repair the installation?
I really need to get this computer working WITHOUT wiping the data
