I've gone true all the steps to compile samba from source on ubuntu but, it does not seem to be installed. When I try /etc/init.d/smb restart or /etc/init.d/samba restart, I get the message "command not found".

I downloaded the source package, unpacked it, went to the source map, ran the ./configure command and then the make && make install commands and everything seemed to go smoothly, but now it just doesn't seem to be installed.

How can I use samba after I compiled it from source?

(note: I need an older version then the one in the ubuntu repositories, so I can't use the debian package)
