So i have a second PC, which has 2 HDD's in it. Windows 7 is installed on the first HDD, (640GB) and i have Ubuntu 10.04 installed on the second HDD (80GB).

This was done basically by "OldFred" 's directions. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1501977

(First few posts on thread i linked will inform how i have my Dual boot setup)

So far i haven't really used Ubuntu much. And from reading on here, 10.10 isnt to stable, but still im interested in knowing:

Is it safe (considering my dual boot setup) to update my Ubuntu version? I am assuming when in my 10.04 it would tell me a new version is out, but maybe it doesnt upgrade like that, you tell me please. :)

Basically i am concerned for messing up my dual boot setup considering if something goes wrong , i dont want to mess up my Windows 7 OS or the time taken to successfully install the dual boot.

If I understand you correctly,
you just want to upgrade your 10.04 to 10.10?

I highly doubt it could damage your other harddrive (W7) in any way.
Ubuntu differ from Windows, it's very simple and goes quick enough to upgrade it to a newer version of the operating system.

I'll provide you with this link, showing you step-by-step how to upgrade Ubuntu.

Good luck :)

Thanks! Yeah i guess one thing i can clarify (because your right, messing up the other HDD is highly improbable) is i am concerned with affecting my boot loader. But considering like you said, it seems the upgrade is simple, its likely a upgrade doesnt touch boot.

While upgrading, you'll have the option to keep the old bootloader :)

Good! Makes sense, considering ubuntu being a OS made by devs for the community :)

Now i'll just wait until 10.10 is stable and better than 10.04 to upgrade.
