What is usually more common in kernel panic situation is an older bios. It often can be cleared up by using a boot parameter such as noapic, nolapic etc. All of the more common ones can be found in the f6 option in the live cd boot menu. I would advise anyone installing any release of Ubuntu to actually run a live cd session before installing. This usually allows you to find if special boot parameters are needed for your system. This is not a comprehensive way to find all causes of kernel panic but at least a beginning.

Any help, please?
I'm a newbie

A kernel panic is literally the Linux equivalent of a BSOD.

It means the kernel has crashed, because the kernel detected a problem.
