Hi guys, n00b here.

I had Windows 7 ultimate installed on my netbook and installed Ubuntu 10.10 using the 'Install alongside other OS's' option which put windows onto another partition and created one for ubuntu.

Anyway I've tried reinstalling the grub but I never get a grub boot menu when I boot it up and the grub won't recognize the windows install :(

I've attached the results from the boot info tool erm don't know if I should be posting anything else but if anyone can help me it would be much appreciated :D

It looks like GRUB managed to get some files onto sda1; this is probably the cause of your troubles. I recommend you use a LiveCD and delete this from sda1:
/boot/grub/core.img Windows does not like seeing 2 sets of files that begin with boot.

Then, reinstall GRUB:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2#Reinstalling%20from%20LiveCD

Make sure you mount sda5 (the Ubuntu partition) and install GRUB to the MBR of sda.

Rubi1200 is correct:

sda1: __________________________________________________ _______________________

File system: ntfs
Boot sector type: Windows Vista/7
Boot sector info: No errors found in the Boot Parameter Block.
Operating System:
Boot files/dirs: /bootmgr /Boot/BCD /boot/grub/core.img

Meierfra wrote a good explanation here:

http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/bootinfoscript/index.php?title=Boot_Problems:Core_On_Windows

Once you've done that simply running "sudo update-grub" should find Windows.

Wow, thanks for the quick responses.
Did what you said and now it works fine! You guys are linux geniuses :P
No idea how the grub ended up on the system reserved partition though...

That worked for me too. Thanks! Way easier than the days when you needed a floppy disk to dual boot!
