Wallpaper but no desktop after installation

Just installed version 10.10, and after installation machine boots and I see the splash screen. I login, but gnome does not load. I can see the wallpaper (and I can pull up a contextual menu by right clicking on the desktop), but no menu bar or anything. Eventually, the login screen comes up again and the cycle just continues... Any help?

My sympathies.

I had the same situation and resorted to reloading.Fixed the problem but I still have boot problems.

Ok, I reinstalled it. The first time it showed a desktop, I was able to download and install updates, I was able to check my email. I restarted, and the same thing happened again. Any more help?
