Hey, my hard drive failed on my laptop a while ago, so when I got a new one I decided to finally start using linux full time. I downloaded a live cd, and after a couple of failures, followed the default instructions. Basically, whenever I restart the computer after installation, it gives me an "operating system not found" message.

I searched around for possible ways of fixing this problem, and read that it could basically boil down to a grub issue or a bios issue. I also found and ran the boot info script. RESULTS.txt is attached. fdisk -l also looks normal:

Disk /dev/sda: 320.1 GB, 320072933376 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 38913 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x0002c2a7

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sda1 * 1 38149 306425856 83 Linux
/dev/sda2 38149 38914 6142977 5 Extended
/dev/sda5 38149 38914 6142976 82 Linux swap / Solaris

The message I am getting at the startup screen is as follows:

Intel(R) Boot Agent CE v1.2.45
Copyright (C) 1997-2007, Intel Corporation

PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel Boot Agent.
Operating System not found

-from this it seems pretty clear that grub is not loading, but I'm not sure how or if I can override the default intel boot loader.

Does this also happen in a 10.04 installation?
