After upgrade to 10.10 from 10.04 ubuntu gets stuck just after the plymouth theme ends.

Initially after first restart it did boot directly into the desktop as expected but I removed the nvidia driver(260) as it was a beta driver and wanted to shift to the older and stable one(256). After the install and reboot ubuntu hangs after plymouth.

Hoping that atleast someone is familiar with this problem.

mine hung half way through the upgrade, lost the UUID's of my primary and secondary hard drive, which I fixed with Knoppix, now it won't get past Plymouth, won't boot in rescue mode, or any other mode, can't get in with ssh because network isn't configured in rescue mode, and can't get to anything but basic commands in rescue mode, what should I do?

Plymouth freeze problem fixed

After rebooting into recovery mode and modifying the following file

"/etc/X11/xorg.conf"

and editing the line
Driver "nvidia"
to
Driver "nv" (This loads the default drivers instead of nvidia drivers)

The system did boot further.

Later install nvidia latest graphic drivers from the nvidia website ------- http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

Things are fine.
