install 10.10 F6 KEY problem

i had to reinstall Ubuntu 10.10 but i need to use the f6 key to do it.however when i enter the options screen the f6 key does not do anything.
i have a nvdia card in PC if that helps.

What's your PC model? Is there some kind of function shift or lock key that has to be enabled for the function keys to work? I've got HP laptops that need that.
