I have to say that 80 is plenty for any of the ubuntu distro's (ubuntu kubuntu edubuntu mythbuntu and so on). All of the ubuntu distro's use very little hard disk space off the start and just about every program in the software centre is small. I know that even after I install all of the packages for ubuntu studio in kubuntu 10.10, it still only takes up 20 to 30gb. So, yeah your good with the smaller drive. don't attempt that with ******* though, they like to hog all of your space and bog your system down. By the way, linux distro's are way faster than ******* too.. just incase you didn't already know that lol

80GB is more than enough for Ubuntu.

However, please remember: additional downloads (movies etc) will take extra space.

Ubuntu server

$ df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda1 12G 2.2G 8.8G 20% /Full ubuntu

$ df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda1 9.2G 2.9G 5.9G 33% /As you can see, 3 gigs is big enough for ubuntu, however I have custom set ups. I would say about 10 gigs to be on the safe side.
