An Application that lists and organizes all kinds of applications and upgrades for your OS. What an ingenious idea! These cool little libraries have made a huge impact in the world of mobile phones. Probably the biggest spot light in the eye of the media/public is the App Store on the iPhone. But who was it that came up with the idea in the first place? When I sit and think about it, these little hand held gadgets have adopted the Synaptic Package Manager and made it fit. No, you don't have quite as much control with the App Store as you do Synaptic but its the same exact concept. My objective is to find out where this idea came from. I'd like to know which OS you were on the first time you seen an application that listed and organized software and upgrades for the OS.

My first place seeing one was on Sabayon (2005)

The first time I used Linux (Ubuntu 7.04) would be the first for me. Been a fan of it ever since.
