G'day.

My 10.10 install is buggered and won't boot up, so I've got myself a 10.04 live CD.

When attempting to re-install 10.04 from inside the OS it gives me the option to "Erase and use entire disk space", along with several other options. If I choose this option is it going to format the whole drive, causing me to lose all my work and documents, or is it just going to erase the old OS and bung a fresh install in it's place, leaving all my stuff safe and sound?

Cheers,
Hamish

It does what it says , so check your other options before starting.

Use the liveCD to make a backup of all your important files and documents before you wipe your drive.

As far as I know you can't rollback your release. You'd probably need to do some major reconstruction if your system doesn't boot anymore as well.

I say save your files and re-install.

From Ubuntu take a screenshot of gparted. Are you backed up at all externally?
