Any one else notice how over the years Ubuntu's website has become more difficult to navigate. In terms finding community documentation and tutorials. I can still find what I'm looking for , but I could see how windows user would get lost real quick. Or do I just have my tin foil hat on too tight?

You mean it's to hard for a new user to go here (https://help.ubuntu.com/) and type what they are looking for in the search box?

For example if I was looking for an NFS howto, this (https://help.ubuntu.com/search.html?cof=FORID:9&cx=004599128559784038176:vj_p0xo-nng&ie=UTF-8&q=nfs+howto&sa=Search) is what I get.

Ubuntu forums have always been hard to find on Ubuntu.com. The support pages should be readily accessible from the top of the home page. Within the last year I think that Ubuntu.com has got a lot better at ease of navigation including support pages. Nowadays Ubuntu forums is more prominent in the support pages. But IRC is still way more prominent over Ubuntu forums. Not everyone likes real time support.

Everything I need answer I got it from here. The rest is just trial and error, tips from magazine and books. I have not seen the documentation since the first time I use Ubuntu. Maybe I may try to read and see what else I miss.

Most often any question you have about Ubuntu that you put into Google will return results from these forums.

I always resort to google when I have some urgent queries, and so far I have always found what I was searching for. But of course having the documentation for quick reference would be a great help.

Agreed. I have found the online manuals to be very helpful:

http://www.ubuntupocketguide.com/index_main.html

http://ubuntu-manual.org/

I use a combination of 4 sources:

Obviously Ubuntuforums.org

Then

Ubuntuguide.org and Kubuntuguide.org, which have about 95% of solutions, and which have solutions based on the version.

Then help.ubuntu.com.

The problem with the last guide is that they don't distinguish solutions based on the version. Solutions from Hardy don't work for Maverick and vice versa. Further, the solutions are, indeed, haphazard.

Actually, the only official Ubuntu solutions I routinely use are from the Server guides, which do have editions for each version of ubuntu server.

So, for example:

help.ubuntu.com/10.04/serverguide/C/

Interestingly, there is no serverguide for Maverick.

I don't think there is very strong editorial supervision of the Ubuntu help team. Kubuntu, for example, doesn't even have its own dedicated wiki at Ubuntu (they just paste Kubuntu headers on the Ubuntu wiki). This is despite the fact that Shuttleworth is one of the major supporters of KDE.

if you were around when the forums first came about. The website seemed more linux user friendly, Now it seems more corporate like with a lean towards Ubuntu "official" support. BTW this just my opinion. But what do I know not much.

I think I have better luck with Google really. Most of the hits bring me right here to the forums but when I try to use the same search parameters from a forum page it's usually just a big 'ol mess. The Ubuntu forums aren't terribly well organized to begin with it doesn't seem. There's also Googlubuntu (http://www.googlubuntu.com/)
