View Full Version : [ubuntu] Screen blank during and after installing Ubuntu

October 13th, 2010, 09:12 PM
I am on Windows XP SP3 and attempted to install Ubuntu 10.10 via WUPI.
I can see the Boot entry UBUNTU, if I click on it the installation starts. I can only hear it, the screen is totally blank.
After 10 Minutes the installation ceases and I hear some drum noise but no picture. I can only proceed by cutting power and going back to Windows.

Here is my configuration:

HP Pavilion
AMD Athlon 64X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+ 2.20 GHz 1.93 GB RAM

Model: NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE
Driver: nv4_mini.sys
Sunday, June 01, 2008

Type: HP f1905 flat panel monitor
Color: True Color (32 Bit)
Resolution: 1280 x 1024
Screen Saver: Not Active

Model: NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller - Packet Scheduler Miniport
Driver: nvenetfd.sys

Any help?

I would suggest downloading the latest Ubuntu Live CD and test if your computer can use Ubuntu. Burn the image to disk and then boot off the CD. Wubi doesn't give you the option to test.

I tried again, this time downloaded Kubuntu, put on CD and started from CD. I get one blue Kubuntu display with several options.
I tried "check the disk" and "install Kubuntu"

In both cases immediately after the start of the process, my screen displays a white message: "Monitor going to sleep" and then the screen remains blank the checking and installation processes continue, though. But silently going to sleep after a few minutes. I, of course, cannot tell what is going on, as I see nothing.

I restarted the PC and no Kubuntu partition has been created.
