I saw the Maverick release notes here:

..so I disabled USB 3.0 in BIOS before installation, and suspend/resume S3 worked flawlessly on AMD 890GX mobo.
But after some updates, resume from S3 broke! So I uninstalled the proprietary AMD/ATI graphics driver and the problem is fixed!
I know that suspend/resume failure destroys your session and is catastrophic... so I hope this helps somebody..
