I'm just updated from Ubutnu 10.04 to Ubuntu 10.10 and I've got the error about apt-get. After reboot I can not login...

Then I try clean install and at the end I've got error: "An attempt to configure apt to install additional packages from the CD failed" and installer crash.

Ubuntu 10.04 was the reason to remove Windows XP, now 10.10 will be the reason to get it back :(

Can you tell me more details? What you are using - USB, external CD? Do you change settings in BIOS? Any special options? What tool you are using for install (I try "official" USB tool and unetbootin but problem is the same.

There are a lot of reports showing trouble with the USB install. Try a fresh install from a CD as a fist step.

I finally can install Ubuntu but only Netbook edition... but I do not like it. It is slow, menus are more for kids. So I switched to Desktop interface and now it works :)

I also have the same problem on a HP pavilion dv1359 where I have always installed Ubuntu since 2005.

There an opened bug here:
