I recently upgraded from Lucid to Maverick... I did not notice this earlier but the icon theme (for example, in the nautilus toolbar) is not the same as ambience theme. Although I chose all the defaults for ambience theme by going to 'System' > 'Preferences' > 'Appearance'. I think the current icons I have are remnants from some previous installations. How do I remove them and get to the ambience default theme?

I think I have encountered the same problem on my workstation. Installing on a laptop with the same CD produces a perfectly working installation with the correct icons and appearance. It's very strange and I don't have a clue what the cause might be.

I'm not sure but I think that this thread http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1589987 is about the same problem (no answers there yet).

I don't I have the same issue as that thread. In my case, all the icons look good. It's just that they don't belong to the Ambience or Radiance themes. See attached picture for the icons in my Nautilus. They aren't the right ones - for example, the back and forward buttons in the Maverick Ambience/Radiance themes are skinny lines instead of the block arrows that you see in the attachment here.

You are right, this is not the same problem as the one I have encountered.

Interestingly, I see the right icons for the 'root' user. This suggests to me that long time ago I did something that left remnants in my Home Folder as settings that are not being overwritten by the new icons. Does anyone have any idea what I can do to revert to the default icons?
