I'd give it an 8. Not that there is any operating system out right now that would score higher on my scale, but I still think an 8 is about right. Once XGL is integrated in the desktop, once the repos get more software, once the little bugs that make the system unstable on some machines get sorted out... Then we might have a 10.

9-1/2 the score any OS will get is depended upon how it works for the enduser.

Kubuntu - 9 - There is always room for improvement..
Xubuntu - 6 - But I've only used it 15 minutes
Ubuntu - Have not tried it

For reference:

Win XP = 7 - (# of spy/adware)
Win 2000 = 5
win ME = (number of particles in universe)^-9283927

Usability / Fun to use / Easy to use / Customization /

Ubuntu: 10 / 10 / 7 / 10.9

Win Xp: 6 / 4 / 8 / 0

Based on Fun factor alone Ubuntu is a 10 as when was the last time you had so much fun with XP. Usuability is based on open source basicly I can look for a package and download it if available "Sourceforg anyone" Ease of use is based on my skill with Linux. Now on customization on just about everything Ubuntu blows the others away. The number one rated free customization thing for XP is a program that totaly changes WIn to a OSX format of all things.

First post but I'm going to say 10! I've only owned a computer for 14 months and I've used Ubuntu for 12 months. I will admit to using something 2000 windows at work but I'm really lost with it.

Struggling through learning computer stuff(Ididn't even know what 'cut and paste' meant two years ago) I have learned and grown with Ubuntu and this forum as my guide. I have heard some refer to Ubuntu as 'dumbing down' linux but it has been easy enough to keep me trying and difficult enough to force me to get comfortable with the command line.

The two months or so XP was on my laptop I grew increasingly nervous about the things I did not have access too, probably more due to ignorance than anything, but Linux seemed to be immediately accessable. Enough that I could break things at will.

I've said enough but Ifelt guilty lurking for so long and soon I might know enough to contribute here, so

Ubuntu (Dapper at the moment)=10 out of 10

8 - i'll be completely honest...the only reason I use ubuntu is because I love the debian system and if you stay on the dev releases of ubuntu as I do, they are the quickest in the game to get new packages in. On the downside - some programs still outdated, some bugs seem to linger forever, and no custom installer(Like fedora or debian testing), to unselect the many apps I don't need(most notably openoffice). On that note, who thinks it would be cool to be able to customize the ubuntu-desktop metapackage?

It does almost everything I want it to do, and I have fun with it, so a 9.

ubuntu-5 (due to ease of use)
win XP-9 (due to spyware/malware/whatever you call the stuff)
I like linux, but use to learn more about my computer, maybe as I learn more I will like it better. Just wish more things would work out of the box.:(

7.5 While I prefer it overall to other distros I tried, there are some things that could be much better.

I would give it an 8 only minor issues that I have not taken the time to work out, and XP would get a 5 in my book.

I am here now as I am bored and want to upgrade some items and or improve on existing ones.
