What were your expierences with Partition Magic and Ubuntu combined. My first was a catastrophe, but not because of PM, but because of me telling Ubuntu to load on the wrong partition. I want to know, so I can decside how I'm going to install (K)ubuntu. Thanks :)

I used Partition Magic to resize my Windows partition, and then let the Ubuntu install format the unallocated space and everything went fine. Although now after Ubuntu is installed, when I go back into Windows and try to launch Partition Magic, I get an error. Doesn't matter anyways, GParted for Linux and it's LiveCD is better. :)

Is there an easy way to format drives - preferably external hard drives connected via USB - using something like Gparted? I can create/delete partitions but can't seem to format them.

I've used the Linux Rescue CD which is a clone of PM8 and the interface seemed user friendly. Never actually used it though.

Edit: It was called System Rescue CD and heres it's page: (unless im thinking of something different)

then you think I should just use qtparted from the kubuntu live cd...the reason I descided to stay away from that was I am new to Linux and a Windows addict:p

I always use partition magic to resize my windows partition. I don't trust linux partitioners to resize ntfs.

I always use partition magic to resize my windows partition. I don't trust linux partitioners to resize ntfs. I've had bad luck with QTParted and GParted, but I've never had a problem with (or even read about someone else having a problem with) using DiskDrake (http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=114142).
