Hi all... I'm looking for a 2.1 or 2.0(Book shelf) speaker below 4k in India that will come around $60- $70 .... I'm a music composer and I need a speaker which outputs the sounds perfectly like a studio monitor....I'm living in a rented apartment with not so big rooms, so too much power like the Altec lansing mx6021 will be a waste of money I guess.... I just want a clear sound that's it... shall I go with the Altec VS4121? Any reviews about it?

i was just gonna tell you to look at altec lansing speakers but it seems you're already on to them. i dont know what the current models are because my pair of 2.1 altec speakers have lasted me 8 years! there's also the creative gigaworks T20 / T40 ones, but you should check reviews.

perhaps some audio magazines / websites could give you some info? normal speakers tend to add bass whereas proper audio monitors give you a clearer reproduction

Not sure where these ship, but they work great.

I will check if they are available in local stores... But they seems to be expensive than the ALtec speakers... The Edifier M1300 a 6+2x2 W where as altec Vs4221 is 19+6x2 W... both are having almost the same price...

Yes I have those and they are great for the price.

I would say they are one step below HiFi quality, which is very good for computer speakers. Go for it :)

And the sub-woofer is great.

I daresay in this class the BA635 will oust all other systems when it comes to accurate reproduction and clarity.

Bad news is you can only get them used (http://shop.ebay.co.uk/i.html?LH_AvailTo=3&_nkw=ba635), since they've been discontinued.

Just a note, sarin... yes, you should get a good pair of speakers to check what things would sound like over a car stereo or a portable stereo (boom box) but for absolute clarity in monitoring the mix and soundstage you should invest in a decent pair of headphones, ones that are NOT overly bass heavy. If you play a synthesizer from bottom to top and certain notes stick out, move on to another set of speakers or headphones.

+1

$50 headphones can have as good quality as $500 speakers.

Ofcourse the Final mixing will be done at professional mixing studio....So I need these speakers check whether my instruments sounds like exactly what they r supposed to do thereby reducing labour at mixing studio.... I want to use these as a home music system also...

Well then considering that you want to go low on the cost, you should look for any used speakers. Most good studio speakers are above 500$ the pair. The cheap ones are not good at all (like those m-audio speakers, they sound auful).

Well I haven't used them, so I can't offer an opinion. A search for reviews and such stuff might help you decide.

Bought Edifier M3300 yesterday. Great product and I'm extremely satisfied with the audio quality.

Thanks a lot to NightwishFan (http://ubuntuforums.org/member.php?u=484925) for suggesting this company which I would have never known about. It is the best one I have listened to in this price range and nothing negative about it. It sounds like my Sony Hi-Fi system at home.

No problem, I happened upon one model myself and it has lasted me through a house fire and rain, and still sounds great. :)
