Hey, I just got Ubuntu (Lucid) a few weeks ago. At that time, my sound had a problem in that if I put headphones in the jack then it would not cut the speakers and not come out of the headphones. I was able to fix this although I can't remember how and then the sound only came out of the headphones but I fixed this too. Yesterday, I upgraded to Maverick and the sound problems returned although this time the computer simply ignores the headphones and gives out sound through the speakers. If some one could help me figure this out that would be great because I am way too new to understand how to fix any of this.

Do these reports describe the problem?

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-utils/+bug/585777
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/115637

If so then it would be good if you could add any new findings you might have.

For a solution here and now, my best advice is googling 'headphones ubuntu solved'. I have not had any problem of this kind and can not give a clear answer, sorry.
