hi every one, I’m trying to install the 10.10 but i made a few mistakes sooooo.... now i have installed the 10.10 but i don’t have any more a load menu at beginning it goes straight to Ubuntu the partition were w7 was still there, but maybe i killed the loader... I'm trying to reinstall the 10.10 but I’m not sure what is going wrong now i receive an error saying to specify the root file or something. is there any way of installing without wiping w7 away need it for my iphone and some other software. i cant access it now, i can see the files all right but not loading it.

Let's get a better look at your setup & boot process. Boot the Ubuntu Live CD/USB. Choose "try ubuntu without any changes", when the desktop loads come back here and do the following:

1. Download the boot info script. There is a link in my signature.
2. Once downloaded move the boot info script to the desktop.
3. Open a terminal and run the command
sudo bash ~/Desktop/boot_info_script*.sh

This will create a RESULTS.txt file on the desktop. Paste the entire contents of that file back here. Once pasted highlight all text and click the # sign on the toolbar to place code tags around the text.

See here (http://bootinfoscript.sourceforge.net/) for more info on the boot info script.

You are missing boot files for win7. Note the red above and compare to mine below:

Boot sector type: Windows Vista/7
Boot sector info: No errors found in the Boot Parameter Block.
Operating System: Windows 7
Boot files/dirs: /bootmgr /Boot/BCD /Windows/System32/winload.exe

You are going to need your windows 7 install DVD. boot from the DVD and at the window where it asks you to install or repair click repair. You want to fix problems keeping windows from booting. I can't remember the exact verbiage that is what you want to do.

After the repair is complete reboot and make sure windows boots properly. if it does you must reinstall GRUB by doing this:
Boot the ubuntu Live CD and go to the desktop. Open a terminal and run
sudo mount /dev/sda5 /mntThis will mount your ubuntu root partition.

next in terminal run
sudo grub-install --root-directory=/mnt/ /dev/sda

When complete reboot without Live Cd. You should have choice of Ubuntu or windows in GRUB menu. if no windows boot to Ubuntu, open a terminal and run
sudo update-grub

thank you very much, hope i have the cd now for w7 this is a laptop and not sure if ill have it will take a look at.
once i repair w7 and I'm installing the 10.10 again, the installer will ask me to install along side? that is why i did it manually and made a miss. i had the 10.04 and everything was fine, then i upgraded online and didn't work fine it was very slow in all apps. will try but I'm pretty sure ill have some more probs. thanx

if you don't have the disk see this: http://neosmart.net/blog/2009/windows-7-system-repair-discs/

this will accomplish what you need to do. Download the iso and burn it as an image to CD/DVD and boot from it.

You don't have to reinstall 10.10 again. read my instructions more carefully. Once you repair windows your 10.10 will still be on your disk. It is just that windows will have overwritten GRUB on the MBR with the windows bootloader. All you need to do after fixing windows is reinstall GRUB using the Live CD - NOT REINSTALL UBUNTU !!!!

hi Presence, I tried to solve but no luck, luckly i had a copy of the 10.04 netbook edition and installed it again, have no problems with this version. Everithing works, all drivers (besides the printer but i didn't really look for a solution) ethernet, wireless, mobile boradband all working. With 10.10 the driver for the broadcom wireless was giving me probs same as the ati drivers. I loved 10.10 very easy to use and better grafic but it would freeze and the only solution is to install again. now i only have access to ubuntu as windows is still missing the loader. tried with the repair cd for windows but nothing happen. would love to install the 10.10 but i think will wait for the lts now. But if u have any suggestion in how should i do the partionion again and repair the windowa loader i would verey much apreciate. thx
