free software laptop?

Hey all, does anyone know whats happening with the free software laptop movement. I would really like one but things seem to have stagnated...

OK so I'm surfin around, and I come across the 'PandaBook' which imn my opinion looks pretty darn sweet.

So... Do you think it would be better to go with a slightly "older specced" system, but go banzai with build quality?
