View Full Version : [ubuntu] How can I minimize all the open windows in ubuntu 10.10

Before this command used to work "CTRL+ALT+d" it use to minimized all the open windows.

Have you checked out the icon in the far lower left corner of your screen. If I click on that all windows minimize and all I see is the desktop. If I click it again they reappear.

That is in regular gnome. Not sure it it is different in other flavors or Ubuntu.

Yes that works, but I like to use the keyboard.

Go to System>Preference> Keyboard Shortcuts and add a shortcut to do this.
I am using 10.10 and here is a screen shot

Mod4 + d is the default for that option in 10.10

My shortcut to do this is the Windows key and "D". It will close all windows.
I always wonder what the Mod4 key was?

Mod4 is the "Windows" key.

Why didn't they just make this window-m like in windows? Argh!

You can also use Compiz. I have deleted the bottom panel and I installed Avant Window Navigator in its place. Then with Compiz I chose an edge on my monitor and when I move the cursor to that edge everything minimizes. It works the other way around too.
