well, since maverick is coming out tomorrow, i was just wondering what some of you guys' opinions were on upgrading from lucid or not.

i think i should wait at least one or two months, but what do you guys think?

please correct this if this is in the wrong forum.

what are your opinions?

Well,

My experience~

I had no desire to even try 10.10, I was perfectly happy with Lucid,
even though I still had a few minor issues with it. [graphics].
But I loved it, and didnt care to switch at all.

Then I got thinking..
"hmm, I wonder if the few bugs I still have in 10.04 will be fixed in 10.10?"

So, my curiosity got the best of me, and I downloaded 10.10 Beta.

To my surprise~ everything worked perfectly!
except for the few bugs a beta still has,
There were no major issues at all.

So I went ahead after a few days running from the CD,
and installed it on its own partition.

Now I am running 10.10 RC, on full install,
and it is just amazing!

I completely removed 10.04 and running only 10.10 now.

Ive installed 10.10 RC on about 5 different PC's now,
laptops and desktops..
and have not seen one issue yet! (knocks on wood)

in 10.04, GIMP had a few small issues, stellarium would not work at all,
AWN had a couple small issues, and a few other things I cant recall right now.

But, I have seen nothing of the sort in 10.10.

Everything absolutely, "Just works!"

It is beautiful!

This should be the LTS. lol <3

^^^ That sure sums it up for me as well, it went nice the RC testing it on various computers... so I would expect the full release of tomorrow to be as well very snappy

Now.... there are indeed a few bugs - just read on here to catch any of them - hopefully you are not related to them(some threads in there are issues with RC, so hopefully its not the same on full release): http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=385

:)I think you'll love it.

i personally prefer to install with the disc,
saves from any 'upgrade' issues.

Oh, I'm definitely going to 10.10.

I'm running 10.04 at the moment and it works okayish, but it was an upgrade from 9.10, not a full install. And after the things I've done to 10.04 via installing and uninstalling all sorts of rubbish, it's not running quite as smooth as it was. Hopefully a fresh install will have things running well once again!!

But the biggest thing will be I'll be finally ditching my old windows 2000 partitions, which still take up 90% of my hard drive space.

I miss W2K, but it's just not supported enough any more. :(

Run what, windows 2000? Hey don't knock it. It could do virtually everything XP can do, while taking fewer resources.

My computer: AMD 2.2GHz 64 bit single core processor. 1GB of RAM. Slightly damaged ATI x1950 graphics card. Motherboard is something like MSI K8N, or something like that.

I personally intend to keep Lucid (it's very good IMO) and install Maverick in a Linux only multiboot setup (Vista has been relegated to a VM under Lucid host using virtualbox ;)).

I'm happy to hear all the good comments on Maverick (will be doing a download very soon no doubt :D)

If you only have one computer, I'd recommend waiting a week or two before upgrading/reinstalling. That way you're less likely to encounter any major bugs. There's almost always a flurry of bug fixes the first couple weeks after a release.
