I've never ever tried or used Apple Mac. As everyone knows, Mac Machines are so expensive comparing with others.

I was wondering if there's any Linux Distro similar to Mac OS X or maybe based on it or at least same desktop environment? Just like ReactOS (http://www.reactos.org/en/index.html) which is based on Windows.

I've checked many distro and almost all of them are based on each other and mainly Linux.

Thank you!

You will be wanting a Darwin based system. Darwin is the Mac Os X kernel.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darwin_kernel
http://www.puredarwin.org/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU-Darwin

Though I have no idea if these systems are even suitable for day to day use. And certainly none of them will have any proprietary OSX parts.

As for a Linux distribution that resembles OSX. Ubuntu does quite well in that regard. I am sure there are some that specifically mock it though.

Yes, I remember I read about Darwin when I read your post :)

So, is there anyway to make sure whether this is good for day to day use or not?

I was looking for something that looks like Max OS X by default or at least based on Max OS X kernel like Darwin. I wonder if there's another rather than Darwin.

Thanks anyway :)

What is it you're actually trying to achieve here, amjjawad?

Apple doesn't make their Aqua DE available in any way, shape, or form but that it is a bundled part of their desktop and server OSs.

Classic/Carbon/Cocoa/Aqua apps cannot run on anything other than some version of Mac OS X, as nobody yet (to my knowledge) has managed to create a Wine-like environment for supporting Mac OS X applications.

Of the major Linux DEs, Gnome is fundamentally the most similar to Apple's Classic / Platinum / Aqua DEs in Classic Mac OS and Mac OS X, just like KDE is the most similar to Microsoft's Luna and Aero DEs in XP, Vista and 7.

As suggested up-thread, much of the Cairo components and tools will give you a more Aqua-esq experience, long with the Dock (forget the name of it off the top of my head).

You almost a always get what you pay for. I bought a new laptop about a month ago. I wanted to get the System 76 that is similar to my Asus, but it was about 3X as much. When I went to Best Buy to get the Asus, I almost bought a mac, but a similar spec computer was about $800 more. When I got my Asus home Windows wouldn't load, and it wouldn't even boot from the CD drive. I got another one that was already set up by Geek Sqad. When 7 goes to sleep the screen gets all messed up, and I have to pu.l the battery out for it to reboot. That and the fingerpad is way too touchy. You can be 2-3" away and it will still mess up your typing.

4- ChameleonOS

5- Pinguy OS

From the above list, I downloaded:

1- DreamLinux 3.5 XFCE: Couldn't connect to Interent as it couldn't detect my Wireless Adapter. Beside, I didn't like it much.

2- Pinguy OS: Quite honestly, I think it's all messed up. First thing, I changed the wallpaper and the icons on the desktop faded away. I have no idea what happened and how to restore them. Second thing, the process bar on the right side is always on top and couldn't find a way to hide it or something. Third thing, it's based on Ubuntu but Ubuntu is much better than this one. Bottom line, I spent lots of time to download it (my connection is very slow) and it's not what I'm looking for.

Ubuntu probably comes closest to Mac OS X in terms of usability and "polish". Just get Ubuntu 10.4 or 10.10 and add a dock + global menu if you want it to be more Mac-Like.
