No promises here, but I'd like to create a front-end for dd. While most Linux users are familiar with the command line form, many new users may find a GUI helpful. If anyone with programming experience would like to help, it'd be greatly appreciated (so far I've just written "Hello, World!" in C).

Included are designs in both Glade and Qt4. I prefer the Qt4 designer.
(although non-functioning and quite ugly, they get the general point across)

UPDATE: qt4 frontend revision; see qtfrontend.tar.gz

Instead of dd:

from caljohnsmith post #7
I would recommend using "dcfldd", which is basically dd with more features; it has the really useful feature of showing the copying progress
