Hey Guys,
Basically, title says it all, I was wondering if there is such a thing as a Mac Emulator (or something to run Mac software) for Ubuntu 10.04?
I have tried to search for the answer but nothing tells me about what I ultimately want to do. I want to run 'Garage Band' on my Linux machine. And it has to be Garage Band not an open source alternative.
Any help would be very much appreciated, even if the answer is you can't.
Thanks dudes.

Btw guys, I know that perhaps this post should not be in this section, however I could not post it under the 'Apple Users' section and I am pretty new to this Forum.
Sorry dudes.

Don't think a Mac emulator exists, so if you have to use Garageband then you will have to use a Mac. Even if one did exist, it would likely not be the same experience, only a few Windows DAWs actually work well through WINE.
Be interested to know why you use Ubuntu but are not interested in any Linux DAW alternatives, there are a more than a few out there.

Its okay, I will have to just install a Mac OS on another machine and use it when im at home. I have to use GarageBand for my work as that is the Software which is used for Mixing, Pitch Correction and MIDI (Drum Beats etc) and then saved and given to the Clients. Everyone else at my work uses GarageBand for this stage of production and I cannot save it in another format (I imagine it would cause alot of problems for everyone accessing it when I am at work).
It would have been good if I didnt have to switch one of my machines to Mac though when i'm working at home (as it is rare) but I guess I have to bite the bullet.
I just thought I would ask as I have great success with WINE, running photoshop, after effects, image ready etc. Exactly the same as using it on a Windows machine.
Thanks anyways man.
P.S. I have used Linux for many many years, and still do run a few different dists and am extremely familiar with all Open Source alternatives and personally find them far superiour. However I do not stand in any position to make technical decisions for my employer. I will never change to another OS as my primary, and I wouldn't use any at other at all if commercial software developers would make the same software available for Linux as is for Apple & Microsoft.

I do hardly use GarageBand at all however. Only because it is free and my works network runs primarily macs. (We design video/audio/multimedia for Architects, Exhibitions and shows etc).
They use Final Cut, Shake, Photoshop etc, I can see in a way why they decide to use Apple.
However I do know that Linux would be a better alternative, however it is a huge jump for many Businesses and staff to take.
Thanks anyways man.

I don't know if this will help you or not but here is a thread for Garageband alternatives.

Thanks man, I haven't actually used 'Wired' before!
Although it doesn't help me with what I wanted to do from making this thread, I can still use it personally. It looks great.
Thanks,
I thought that I had tried most popular open source music editing software.
If you know any software that can open GarageBand file extentions/formats and can open GarageBand templates etc and can save and render in GarageBand formats then that would be perfect. I just figured that nothing exists and the only way is to use like a WINE equiv.
But I guess I haven't heard of them all.

Sorry I didn't read that you asked me that.
I use Ubuntu because everyone is entitled to, and because I have done so for around 4 years, and mostly Gentoo along with other distributions before that for around 10 years, it is the main OS and for many years the only OS I had used.
So I am very comfortable with it. It has excellent support for Programming and by far the best compilation technology of any OS. Also for the use of the excellent video and image editing software. Along with the common power, security, useability reasons.
Probably more reasons I use Ubuntu than yourself. However everyone is entitled to. Use it just to sit and stare at the Desktop if you want.

I know nothing of Macs but cant you just build a MacOS virtual machine with VirtualBox and run it in there?

Yeah, I am going to give that a shot annyway, install Hackintosh OS onto the virtual box or something. Thing is Apple OS's are usually very picky about what Box they want to live in. So I don't know for sure whether it will work for sure but hopefully it will. I have never used anything except from Windows 98 {:lolflag:} on a Virtual Box so I am no expert.
Thanks man.

I dont think this will work. See this (http://en.wikipedia.org/VirtualBox) for more information.
