I just read about Sparrow (http://sparrowmailapp.com/) for OSX. Any such minimalist email client available for Ubuntu?

Maybe, Postler (http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2010/07/postler-elementary%E2%80%99s-new-mail-client/) is something we should be looking forward to. But, we haven't heard much about it recently, have we?

By minimalist, I mean graphically minimalist. Not text-based. :D

I use Opera - the mailer is embedded in the browser with no noticeably overhead ( i have 2 IMAP accounts with a few thousands of mails).
Plus it has a nice tray plugin too (that is missing from Evolution/Thunderbird).
I also liked Seamonkey (that is the old Netscape = Firefox+Thunderbird, with a slightly more minimalistic interface, very stable).

Other than that there is Sylpheed and its relatives. Very lightweight, but had poor html rendering of mail with embedded stuff (images etc).

claws / sylpheed
But sometimes you will appreciate feature-packed application because it makes your life easier and productive.

Mutt, Sylpheed and Claws are lightweight, but not minimalist...

If it's graphical, it's not minimalist. ;)

P.S.: Alpine (http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=alpine) for the win.

I'm not sure where this terminal-phobia on UF comes from.

Guess I'm a terminal-phobia. :D I use Ubuntu coz it says it's for humans (i.e. everyone). I like Ubuntu because they make it really user-friendly. While we can run programs from terminal, they introduced Gnome Do etc.

All along, I never knew being manimalist meant no graphical UI. I learned something, too.

I will try to learn 'terminal' and once I'm done, I will come back and use the forum. :)

Have a good day.

Cheers~

Hey wait!
Have you seen Spicebird?.. though not "minimalist" by definition, the interface is nice and is also easy to work with.(particularly if you focus on the mail tab and ignore the other tabs) :)

I'm waiting for something a little more minimalistic myself. Something like Sparrow would be totally awesome to have. I'm glad the elementary look and feel is becoming so extremely popular that a lot of the applications are getting remodelled to suit the style.

Fingers crossed that something pops up soon :)

*bump*

Sparrow is a great client. Haven't been able to find anything with a similar UI for Ubuntu.
