Recompute cardboard PC in the flesh: it's real, it boots, it's made of cardboard
We took delivery of a Recompute recently. This doesn't sound like a stunning statement: we get fancy new tech to play with all of the time, some of it stamped with the "green" moniker for better or worse. But the Recompute is just so far fetched: an entire desktop PC... built with cardboard!...

I built a PC inside a tomato crate one time. We called it the Tomato. Fun was had.

I luckily have all the materials and tools I'd ever need to do so- minus case fans. I'm basing it on this

Better put a no smoking sign outside your door. Don't want the computer end up in flame.

I was thinking of mounting an old mobo that I have laying around in to a cardboard box. This is definitely a step up from what I had in mind, but I'm glad to see it has been tried. Definitely a novel concept!

I prefer my wooden PC, less fragile!

$200 for a half-hieght micro-ATX case with a 400watt power supply that sells for $25? Its not even a 80+ efficiency power supply, just cheap junk!
"Green" doesnt have to mean "stupid", but buying this cardboard profit-driven divel would be stupid. Getting a 2nd hand metal case and a decent 80+ efficiency power supply is more "green" than building, buying and shipping a new case and power supply.

There is flame retardant in the case.

Thank goodness someone said this. The casing is the most reusable part of a desktop system, why would you make it out of cardboard?
