I always thought Xubuntu was the only one that used XFCE. I think it has a little way to go before you can really build a distro around it though.

why would you think that? (that is directed to both of your points)

Hey, I like VectorLinux because it's small and fast on an old machine and it's Slackware based... ;)

I used to use a distro called morphix. It was a live cd that used xfce. At the time it had a hdd install script.

I used it for several months with no problems. If I remember it was/is Debian based.

the Archie liveCD, which is based off of Arch, uses XFCE. however, Arch itself isnt based on any desktop environment, none are installed by default so you pick whichever one you want.

I can second this suggestion. Though I have only used it for a little while.... I can say that it sure was fast. You might want to check this out!!

DreamLinux is one of the best uses of the XFCE DE I have ever seen,
its very fast and professional looking and everything pretty much works out of the box.
It’s a duel Live/Install CD so well worth a try.
Check out the screen shots on their site.

I agree, but when I booted into it my screen was really shakey! I can't take it!
Anyone know how to fix?

Dreamlinux is morphix compative. And I should say it seems dreamlinux is cool as it doing its job focusing only on xfce! Maybe I would give it a try:)

When I wrote my topic about Xfce "not being ready", I was basing my judgement on the Xfce you can install with Breezy. From what I've just heard, the latest Xfce is much much better.

There are some essential settings you can't change in Xubuntu (CUPS!) but can in Ubuntu. The lack of auto-mounting was also an annoyance, and I somehow managed to partially hose Xfce by installing gnome-volume-manager :-)

Also, I had to launch Abiword with the sudo command in order to get it to print. (I didn't try changing the print command, but maybe I should've).

However, I didn't take into account that a distro that comes with Xfce would be much more likely to provide tools and things to provide all that functionality.

I just downloaded DreamLinux last night--both versions.

They sure looked pretty on my main computer... but couldn't recognize my mouse or keyboard, so I couldn't really do anything.

And on my older computer, I couldn't get the video card/ monitor recognized properly, so I just had a fuzzy screen.
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg didn't work because it doesn't use xorg. I couldn't find XFree either, though...
