View Full Version : [ubuntu] trouble installing network-manager-openvpn / emacs issue

Hi all,

It's been a while since I meant to resolve this emacs-related issue when installing basically any package.

Since I really need network-manager-openvpn, I decided to finally try and ask.

This is a known bug I believe, with no fix if I understand well. My question is: is there a way to go around it (instead of fixing it)

Here it goes : when installing a package (in this case, network-manager-openvpn), emacs gets in the way like this:

root@AC:/home/ac# apt-get install network-manager-openvpn
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
network-manager-openvpn is already the newest version.
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 1 not upgraded.
4 not fully installed or removed.
After this operation, 0B of additional disk space will be used.

And the package is not installed.

I have already tried uninstalling emacs. Doesn't work...

Is there anything I can do? I've been googling and googling about that, so I am sorry if I missed a post or any solution and I am still asking. If so, I'd love a link!

Thank you so much in advance!

Hi again,

Answering myself, partly...

A complete removal of all emacs-related packages solved the issue. I thought I had tried that already. But apparently I had not done it right.

However, reinstalling emacs does not work. Still the same messages:

Well, at least I was able to install my so-much-wanted network-manager-openvpn !

Anyway, the emacs issue is still there. I keep this thread open in case someone knows how to fix it... I'll look into it some more, after getting some sleep...

I should add that
apt-get install emacs23-lucid

or

apt-get install emacs23-nox

both return dependency errors too.

That's it for tonight, but like I said, I would be interested in any solution!
