Overview
The Mozilla Seabird, part of the Mozilla Labs’ Concept Series, is an experiment in how users might interact with their mobile content as devices and technology advances.

Drawing on insights culled from the Mozilla community through the project’s blog, a focus quickly developed around frustrating physical interactions. While mobile CPUs, connectivity and development platforms begin approaching that of desktops, the lagging ability to efficiently input information has grown ever more pronounced.

Very cool. Although the projectors will drain the battery pretty fast.

Nice but being an OpenMoko phone owner; I am slightly apprehensive.

I was just reading today that a single uranium pellet has as much power as one ton of coal (don't know who's ton, but either way). Keeping that in consideration, how long could one small chip power a smartphone?

I imagine the connected steam turbine and all the water coolant mess would make it a bit tough to fit in your pocket though...

it's the imperial ton, about 2000LBS, or somewhere in the range of 600-700 kilos. You wouldn't have to have the steam and turbine and all by the way, check this out:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radioisotope_thermoelectric_generator
its what they use on long rage space probes like Galileo, cassini, the pioneers, the voyagers etc.
there was also something about the miniaturization process I was reading about in popsci:http://www.popsci.com/science/article/2009-10/scientists-develop-penny-sized-nuclear-battery

"Pipe dream" would be a more accurate project name than "Seabird."

This.

Neat, but something like that is a few years out. Battery tech sorely needs to catch up with mobile tech.
