Trying to install 10.04 but it stops at a command prompt

I have an older Dell and I boot with a liveCD which stopped with a blank screen. I read some posts and it said to hit F6 and added i915.modeset=0 to the start command. Which works, but stops at a command prompt. What do I need to do at the command prompt to start the OS installation?
