View Full Version : [ubuntu] Installing Ubuntu from Windows crashes

I'm currently running Windows XP and found it necessary to install Ubuntu for a computer science class I'm taking.

I created a 30 GB partition on my hard drive for the installation.
I downloaded wubi to begin the installation from a windows environment.
I also downloaded a Ubuntu 10.04.1 i386 ISO file, and placed it in the same folder as wubi to force a 32-bit installation on my computer.

I run wubi and it does whatever set up it needs to with the ISO file I've provided for it. I reboot my computer as instructed, and select Ubuntu as my operating system when prompted.

The Ubuntu screen loads, it receives the time from a network server, starts to complete the installation - which is where it stops in its tracks, at around 25%. I can still move my mouse around, but that's about it. It stays like this until I turn off my machine.

I've tried this installation multiple times, uninstalling before each time. Sometimes it gets to 27%, others 22%.
I've also attempted to install the 64-bit version, which yields the same results.

Can anyone tell me what's wrong here?

Thanks.
