I have run Ubuntu 10.04 Netbook on my Advent 4211 aka MSI WIND Netbook since May very happily and installed the upgrades as they become available. No problems UNTIL WEDNESDAY NIGHT when after downloading the latest upgrades and installing AFTER the reboot I had a message panel stating that my screen, video card and input devices were not recognised and I should configure them manually. Unfortunately the computer appears to be locked in a loop and the only move available is to switch off. Rebooting results in more of the same. Although most of my files are backed up on an external hard drive, I have several very important files I need to recover from my Home directory. Can anybody please help me to recover my files and get my Netbook running again? I am a Ubuntu Newbie unfortunate but I can follow instructions.

you could try to boot with a different kernel (if you have not removed them)

Hold down SHIFT during computer boot and select a previuos kernel.

If your boot succeeds, install package dkms for avoiding some issues with kernel compatibility.

I hope it helps
