I cleared a thinkpad to use ubuntu, and can get to main menu with f6. Through these install or ubuntu entry points, or if I let it boot alone with CD, they both show logo momentarily, with the flashing dots of progress. Some time after 3-4 minutes, the upper left quadrant will show a brief flash of white or red junk on screen, then goes blank. I then have to remove battery to shut down. Can some one pls help me with the most simplest of guidance. Is this a video card issue. The memory and drive test went fine with main menu. Can someone guide me on where to look with simple terms. Thank you. The Bios does point to go to CD first. I have booted 15-20 times trying to find different ways to get to the initial ubuntu interface screen. SOS

Yes it's a video card issue. What card/chipset are you using? You choose F6 and "nomodeset" and it does or does not work?
