Stuck at step 3 with Ubuntu 10.04 installation. Using a burnt CD to install on my home PC. After selecting preferred keyboard layout at step 3 the installation process will go no further. Have tried numerous times and searched to see if a solution has been posted but haven't been successful. Any suggestions would be appreciated. PW

I'll burn it in slow mode (max 4x) later today as you suggested and see what happens. Will post sometime later! PW

4 days and another couple of burnt CD's later have not been able to get Ubuntu 10.04 to install. It likes to stay on step 3. Maybe I should just wait until 10.10 comes out and see if it will install? :(

I guess this means 256 MB on the screen card. I assume there is enough memory on the machine, at least 512 MB.

Your screen card should not cause trouble. Have you tried 9.10 or 10.10? Also, did you try the 'test CD for defects' option?

Try the 10.04 alternate cd.

Available physical memory on machine 2.59 GB. Will look into the other options you have posted.

Try the 10.04 alternate cd. It is being downloaded at this time. Will burn disc, and if all goes accordingly, will try later today??

UPDATE: After burning several discs using the suggested options, with the same results, I am Making progress! Purchased startup CD's for 10.04 and 10.10. Installation works and I am no longer stuck on step 3. Hopefully I can now wade through some of the other issues and get Linux to work for me. Thank you all for taking the time to offer assistance.
