I'm trying to install Ubuntu on a portable hard drive, but it automatically installs the boot loader to my other hard drive. Is there a way to stop this so that I can install it onto my portable hard drive and boot it from any computer? I can't unplug my other drive because doing so would void my computer's warranty. (I have one of those warranty stickers on the case) Thanks in advance. :)

Hit the 'Advanced' button in the bottom right corner of the last configuration screen. The default choice is sda, but you probably want sdb or whatever your portable river is.

Thanks. Is there a similar way to do it in Debain 5.0?

There should be, but I am not very familiar with Debian.
