Hi everyone. When I boot Ubuntu 10.4 from the USB drive, I get as far as the boot menu, then when I try to run the live USB option to try ubuntu without installing, my monitor displays "Out of Range". Monitor is a BenQ 22inch widescreen, it uses a std VGA connection. Video card is a Gigabyte GT240. I've seen thousands of posts with the people that have the same problem, but no answers to solve it.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

I can make ububtu appear if I use an old IBM monitor, and I can lower the resolution, then plug my benq back in, but I'm left with a low resolution on the benq, and I do have to give the IBM monitor back. I want to be able to install ubuntu using my own PC

Please note I am new to linux, if there is a solution, could you please write it knowing I have no linux knowledge, but I am a competent windows user.

Try the boot options (safe graphics mode),read chapter:
Changing the CD's Default Boot Options from:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BootOptions

Btw,if monitor is a LCD,you can try using a DVI cable instead of VGA cable.

Thanks for the reply, I have to go an get a DVI cable to test, and unfortunately nothing on that link you gave me worked, the F1 - F12 keys did nothing, I'm installed a 64bit version off the USB drive, would that make a difference?
