What happens if you get an update for an older version kernel when you are using a new version?

I suppose the older one gets updated. What did you think would happen?

Informative :-)
I think the OP wants to ask that if the older kernels get updated, why we keep on using the newer ones. What is the benefit of updates for the older kernels? Am I right U_buntu?

No, i was just wondering if and older version would get mixed up with the new version (when having the new version first). Having issues once downloading and installing all the updates after reboot, i keep getting freezes. Just trying to pin point a possible cause.
