Anything at all by Queen, Pink Floyd best albums by them are (IMO) dark side of the moon, animals, the wall, atom heart mother. i never warmed to final cut, ummagumma, etc. nor could i warm to the way way way out syd barratt stuff. after roger waters left(ie was booted out), i stopped liking pink floyd. david gilmore is a good artist, but i just think that he is lacking something. to me, roger waters IS pink floyd. after hearing roger waters solo stuff, i find his solo stuff bland and boring.

The Piper at the Gates of Dawn is clearly their best album in my opinion. :) nooooooooooooooooooooooooo :D. i didn't like that album at all. i played it several times when i first got it (i think i got it as part of a special offer along with 2 other floyd albums), then filed it away.......and it is been growing cobwebs ever since. he may well have had some sort of artistic genius at some point in his career, but the acid certainly destroyed that. i couldn't hear any sign if it on any of his floyd albums. perhaps he's very much an acquired taste. he's now a virtual vegetable being looked after by his mum in cambridge due to his drug abuse.

I didn't know he was still alive :o.

I didn't know he was still alive well, if thats what you can call it, yes. he's alive in theory. he's not living much of a 'life', though.

Listen to Interstellar Overdrive, pure genius.

(but then I also like Trout Mask Replica by Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band i've listened to ISO loads over the years. it doesn't do anything for me, though.

captain beefheart is another that i never warmed to. btw i would have thought you would have recommended white light white heat instead of the banana album given your preference for captain beefheart and syd barratt :p. i love 'the gift' on that album where john cale recites that story.

White Light/White Heat is a great album, but I find the banana album better and I just wanted to mention one VU album ;) (It wasn't an easy choise to make)

"and caused little rhythmic arcs of red to pulsate gently in the morning sun."

"and caused little rhythmic arcs of red to pulsate gently in the morning sun." thats the last line :). he says the twist to the story in such a clinical way as if its ever so expected, and then the song ends. i kinda like the way its done, in a way. i also like the early(though not the earliest) use of occassional feedback througout thws song with the guitars. it was the only song where cale had the main part on the vocals.

Joy Division - Closer another person with good taste :p. my fave JD song of all time is Decades. its also one of my favourites of all time. i think the emotion in that song packs quite a punch. its also quite symbolic - that was the last song on the last album ever committed to record before he hung himself. its almost like a farewell song.

There is a very good US artist that most of his fellow countrymen don't even know about which is a shame. Locally he is a legend and I've listened to his music from a young age. Maybe give it a try...

Nurse With Wound - Spiral Insana
My Bloody Valentine - Loveless

Hmm, it's difficult to narrow down my favourite few, but here's a try:

Abbey Road - The Beatles
Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd
The Bends - Radiohead
The Colour and the Shape - Foo Fighters
Origin of Symmetry - Muse
OK Computer - Radiohead
Revolver - The Beatles
Showbiz - Muse

BIG fan of The Beatles myself, like Radiohead but hate everything after OK Computer, the rest are just (I think) timeless classics.

The Bends - Radiohead
OK Computer - Radiohead good choice :). in my opinion, i rate them in the following order:
-the bends (i also felt that this represented the real radiohead at their very best)
-ok computer (what it lacked in energy compared to the bends, it made up for in inventiveness and variety)
-kid A (hated it to begin with, but grew to like it a lot)
-hail to the thief
-amnesiac (apart from The Pyramid Song, most of them were mediocre)
-com lag
-pablo honey (this is where they were finding their feet)

OK Computer would be my favourite Radiohead album if Climbing Up Walls and Fitter Happier weren't on. I think they drag the album down a bit, while The Bends has great songs all the way through. You just can't beat the guitar playing on Just ;).

OK Computer would be my favourite Radiohead album if Climbing Up Walls and Fitter Happier weren't on they were just fillers IMO. paranoid andriod is my fave on that because of its complexity and the many different musical scenarios. i think it changes from one 'scenario' to another quite cleverly so that the song blends almost seemlessly.

You just can't beat the guitar playing on Just i agree with you about the guitars all the way though including just :). i like 'just' too, but its not my fave. i think my fave on the bends is fake plastic tress because i find it the most moving. i also love street spirit
